Aussie retirees’ big hearts for pets

What does retirement mean to you? Is it a time to do all the things you’ve dreamt about? A time to ramp-up and travel Australia on a yacht, a motorbike or in a motorhome? Or is it a time to slow down and enjoy home comforts in the garden with your pets and grandkids?

One thing’s for certain, Australian retirees give generously. According to the 2020 Global Trends Giving Report, retiring from work does not equate to retiring from actively making the world a kinder place. The report outlines findings from a global donor survey and indicates that Aussies aged over 50 years give more than any other generation! It also reports that the top two causes Aussies love to give to are:

  1. Children and youth causes
  2. Animals and wildlife

A whopping 72% of donations in Australia are made by people aged over 50, that is, the Baby Boomers and the Generation Xers combined.

The Australian Charities and Not-For-Profits Commission (ACNC) indicates that around 800 registered animal charities exist in Australia. And with an estimated 60% of Australian households including furred, feathered or scaled animals as cherished members of the family, it’s no doubt there are so many wonderful not-for-profit organisations existing to rescue and rehome animals, and raise awareness against animal cruelty and exploitation.

Despite generous donations and not-for-profit organisations working around the clock, it’s estimated that a quarter of a million unwanted dogs and cats are put down each year. The question of how to create longer-term change for animals is one that has given rise to a new Foundation in Australia – the Animal Justice Foundation (AJF). The AJF is building a financial legacy to protect companion animals, wildlife, marine life, and all types of animals, way beyond one or two generations.

Protecting animals, always

Australian animal-lovers can now donate or bequest to the AJF - a different kind of not-for-profit organisation that invests donations into ethical stocks to grow every dollar and build a perpetual fund to protect animals by supporting animal charities and driving legislative change, well beyond our lifetime. Over time, collective donations will accumulate into a significant fund, with investment returns that will be used to future-proof the protection of all animals.

The AJF is a volunteer-run organisation with virtually no overheads. This means that the majority of any donation is grown and magnified over time, with only a small proportion of funds required for administrative costs.

To make a donation or pledge a bequest, please telephone 1800 318 226 or visit https://www.animaljusticefoundation.org. And THANK YOU for all the time, compassion and support that you provide to animals.
